The Railroad Safety Project at Arkansas High School continues to grow every year. What started as an effort to educate our school community has developed into a project reaching students, families, and our community through multiple forms of outreach.
Students create posters, videos, digital media, and public service announcements to educate others about railroad safety. These materials are displayed throughout Arkansas High School on school TVs and other platforms to keep railroad safety at the forefront of students' minds.
Through our connection with Union Pacific Railroad, students are working toward an informational visit to the local downtown railyard. This experience will allow students to see railroad operations firsthand and learn directly from railroad professionals about:
Railroad safety procedures
Train and rail operations
Railroad crossings
Trespassing dangers
Real-world railroad careers
How to stay safe around railroad property
Students plan to work with Union Pacific Special Agent Mr. Archer and his son to create professional railroad safety PSAs. These videos will be designed for sharing through YouTube and social media, allowing students to take their message beyond the walls of Arkansas High School.
Our project demonstrates the power of EAST and community collaboration. By working with Union Pacific Railroad professionals, students gain access to experiences and knowledge that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom.
Through this project, students develop real-world skills in:
Communication • Teamwork • Research • Video Production • Graphic Design • Public Speaking • Problem Solving • Community Service • Project Management
The Railroad Safety Project continues to expand because the need for railroad safety education never goes away. Each year, students find new ways to reach more people and make the message more impactful.
Our goal is simple:
Educate our community. Raise awareness. Promote railroad safety.
EAST students aren't just learning about railroad safety — they're using their skills to help make their community safer.
